Al Frankel, a counselor from one of the Western trips 1975, anybody remember me?

Hello, Al Frankel here. I was a counselor on a western trip in 1975. Before that I was a counselor at Barryville for 2 years, in Pioneer camp in 1974, I think. In 1976 I was a P.A. (w/Mark Simon) in Al Maxman's unit in Narrowsburg. Back then I had a big afro and a girlfriend named Jennie, who I later married. Anybody remember being there w/me? RSVP. Thanks, Al Frankel

IRIS! How are you?!?

Hi there, how's things been the past 30 years? Great to hear from you. I remember you well actually. On a sad note, I should tell you that Jennie passed away many years ago. We married a few years after the western trip, then had two sons. Tragically, she died quite suddenly and totally unexpectedly from a cerebral aneurysm at the young age of 31, back in 1985. BTW, Jennie was very fond of you, that I remember well; she admired your spunkiness. My sons are now 25 and 23 and are doing quite well I'm happy to say. I remarried and had 2 more kids (OY!). I have a 15 year old daughter and a 12 year old son from my second marriage. I am a clinical social worker/psychotherapist and a divorce mediator. For fun I play harmonica and sing in a blues band. I hope to hear back from you soon. Feel free to write me directly at alfrankel54@yahoo.com.
All the best,
Al

Israeli watchbands! Yet another memory!

Hi, yes that was me. Can you elaborate on the name "Grubby"? FYI: my web site is www.alfrankelcsw.com, which has a more recent photo of me and describes my professional endeavors. Thanks,
Al

Al,

That was my nickname back then (my last name is Grubman)....I was in Tent Z that year and my counselor was Doug Lichter (he was also my western trip counselor along with his girlfriend Mona). My best friends were Turk and Floyd.

At the end of that summer you asked for volunteers to help clean up the waterfront....as a reward you gave out those black leather watch bands that snapped over the face of the watch. I was happy to get one.

Your girlfriend, who later became your wife, was a camper, right?

Rob

re: Grubby

Hey Rob,
Thanks for getting back. No, my girlfriend from that time was not a camper, but rather a counselor from Narrowsburg. We married a few years later, but unfortunately she passed away in 1985 (see post below to Iris). I hope you are doing well, and glad you enjoyed the watchband....I'm all out of them now, LOL!

I remember Steve Frankel - we were campers together at Narrowsburg (and the Western Trip) in the mid-60s. I think we drove up from NYC one summer after we 'graduated' to hook up with some of our female friends who became counselors, and then ran out of gas on the Triboro Bridge on the way home. I love that there's a Wel-Met former camper site - I just Googled this. Thanks to those responsible!
